The little creative circle of which I am a small part wanted to create a calendar for the year 2004 (I think) and this is the picture I did for the month of November. I have a little obsession with eyes (like a lot of people I find), people used to get freaked out when staying in my room because they were ever stared at by my array of eyes displayed on the wall. The eye was created in chalk pastel in my first year student halls in Glasgow. I'd like to think i've improved since then. However I don't really have any up to date art up here. So you can't test that theory . Chalk Pastel is probably my favourite media. I find that as a general rule it matches my rather hazy approach to art. Sadly though I just can't seem to stop my pastel pictures fading, even after using expensive sealant. So this is a little snapshot of when this picture was first made. I guess everything is only temporal.
Very cool artwork, botht he small view and large views are stunning. If your even better than this now, Id like to see it because I would be proud if I got this good
I agree with the eye obsession, they make really striking images. Im planning on drawing some eyes and small sections like this rather than full portraits as I thought it might help me concentrate on detail more and develop.
Thank you so much I really appreciate the good feedback . I think chalk pastels is really my medium of choice so I don't know if I could do something quite as strikeing as this in another medium... would have to see. Would really love to make a massive, massive picture like this one day.
I definitely recommend focusing on small parts of the subject especially the fave, it's really beneficial. Basically practice, practice, practice and more practice helps to develop your repertoire. I'm thinking of doing lots of studies on the mouth because it is the part of the face i've always had difficulty replicating with sincerity. I guess that's the nature of human expression .
I look forward to seeing what you come up with .
Strangely enough, when I did A-level art I hated chalk pastels too- with a passion in fact. Then one day, it just sort of 'clicked'.
Thanks so much though. I'm so pleased .
Wow, I love it. I have a thing with eyes too, and not regular colored eyes, I love looking at eyes that are strange and slightly abnormal. I think this falls right into the category of strange eyes, but it suits it perfectly. Especially the way the colors are all in the same shade range. I just love it.
